1. Arrow Height Adjustable Hydraulic Sewing Chair

Best chair for interior decor
Our Rating: 4 / 5
Weight: 25 Lbs
Size: 19 x 18 x 11 inches

With a black background sewing motif on top of this black chair, the Arrow Height hydraulic sewing chair is an excellent fit for every craft room. It’s Riley Blake fabric is a neat design that gives this chair excellent form, while it doesn’t lack overmuch in function. The Arrow Height chair does just enough to make sure that it’s a comfortable seat.

With a low backrest, this chair provides excellent back support to the lumbar. This sacrifices some ability to fully sink in when sitting in the chair, but a little help keeping your posture isn’t a bad thing. With the chair’s height being adjustable, you’re also easily able to find a way to keep your legs comfortable while sitting in it. Easy movement from the 5 casters also aids in this, as well as moving around your sewing machine.

With that said, there are a few places that Arrow Height could add just a bit more. First of all, the chair lacks the ability to adjust the height of the back, which can prevent it from alleviating some pains. The seat size is also too small for some, as it can be stool like at times. The chair does not include armrests, either

What I liked

  • Great, good looking design.
  • Adjustable height.
  • Mostly comfortable.

What I didn't like

  • No armrests.
  • Backrest not adjustable
  • Small seat.

Arrow Sewing Print Material Sewing Chair

2. Arrow Sewing Print Material Sewing Chair

Best chair for organizers/em>
Our Rating: 3 / 5
Weight: 20 Pounds
Size: 20 x 19 x 19 inches

Very similar to the other Arrow chair, the Arrow Sewing Print Material Sewing Chair uses Riley Blake fabric to maintain a good look. Unlike it’s kin option, this chair doesn’t have the black on black motif to help it out, though. It’s oak finish does look classic, though, which is a plus. Add in colorful options, and this chair can fit most every sewing room.

However, there’s more here to worry about than the look. The rigid design of this sewing chair prevents it from being one of the best as far as pain relief and comfort go. With no adjustments to make, you have to hope you enjoy sitting on the chair as is. Of course, the chair is well designed so you are likely to enjoy it, but it won’t always be perfect for you. If you have pains you’re looking to alleviate, this might not be the chair for you. A lack of armrests is another knock against this one.

Where it does step up as one of the best sewing chairs is in its storage. Equipped with an under-seat storage compartment, you can easily use this chair to keep whatever you need. An 18″ wide and 16″ deep seat space makes it easy for you to store almost as much as you would in most craft boxes. Combine this with a 4 caster design, and you have all of your sewing gear on the go.

What I liked

  • Neat design with many options.
  • Comfortable sitting for most people.
  • Storage compartment for all of your needs.

What I didn't like

  • The chair’s height is not adjustable.
  • No other features to increase comfort.

Serta Works Ergonomic Executive Office Chair

3. Serta Works Ergonomic Executive Office Chair

Best chair for motion
Our Rating: 4 / 5
Weight: 51.4 Pounds
SPM: 1,100
Size: 30 x 27 x 40.8 inches

There is a lot to love about the Serta Works Ergonomic Executive Office Chair. While not specifically intended to be a sewing chair, the Serta Works ergonomic design makes it well suited for the job. Padded in every area – and especially in the backrest – this chair is like a mobile couch. This chair also offers adjustments that most sewing chairs don’t. Ergonomically inclined, you can set the armrests, height of the chair, and seat however you’d like.

The Serta Works Ergonomic Executive Office Chair does require assembly but is very easy to assemble. And once you have assembled it, you’ll instantly fall in love with its soft exterior. If there is a difficult aspect, it’s putting on the casters. However, each caster easily pops on once placed correctly. The casters allow easy movement across almost any surface, so they’re certainly worth the effort.

The size of the chair is an issue for some taller people, as it can be difficult to find a comfortable leg position even after height adjustment. A lack of recline can also add some extra strain on the legs. The leather material is also an issue at times. It’s sometimes too slippery, especially in the cold, and sticky when hot. In most positions, this isn’t an issue.

What I liked

  • The ergonomic design makes it very comfortable.
  • Casters are great for movement.
  • Great support of back, arms, head.

What I didn't like

  • Seat size and height aren't great for everyone.
  • Leather material can be either slippery or sticky depending on temperature.

Office Star Ergonomically Designed Knee Chair with Casters, Memory Foam and Black Metal Base Black

4. Office Star Ergonomically Designed Knee Chair with Casters, Memory Foam and Black Metal Base Black

Best chair for natural support
Our Rating: 3 / 5
Weights: 15 Pounds
Size: 24 x 18.2 x 23.6 inches

A bit out of the ordinary for sewing chairs, the Office Star Knee Chair starts things off with a very classy look. Available in Espresso or Mahogany finishes, both provide a subtle touch that make the chair look very nice. The dark grey seating fits very well with both base finishes, giving this a perfect understated look. As far as sewing chairs are concerned, this might be one of the least obvious.

The unique design of this chair lends itself well to good posture and natural support. The seat and backrest of the chair are memory foam, which allows the body to easy relax into the chair. This couples with the knee chair design to allow you to find a position where your posture is perfect, and your body is at rest. The Office Star might not be the best for people who experience regular pains, but it’s more than functional for most people.

That being said, the chair should not be used for long periods of time. Because it focuses more on supporting your body than relaxing it, this chair can add to discomfort over time. And while it comes with casters, movement in this chair can be precarious. All told, it’s a great buy for many people, but not without it’s downsides.

What I liked

  • Great, classy look.
  • Knee chair design is innovative and naturally supportive.
  • Memory foam padding feels great on your body.

What I didn't like

  • Not good support over an extended period.
  • Movement this low to the ground can be precarious.

5. Boss Office Products B315-BE

Best chair for budget
Our Rating: 5 / 5
Weight: 18 Pounds
Size: 25 x 25 x 40 inches

The Boss B315-BE is not flashy or innovative – it doesn’t improve on any old chair designs. But a sewing chair doesn’t need to be over the top. The design of this chair is near perfect without adding too many gadgets. The first thing you might notice about this chair is that there are many options for the design. The Boss B315-BE is offered in 4 colors and one camouflage print, and can be purchased with adjustable or loop armrests.

The Boss B315-BE offers plenty more than surface level options that make it one of the best sewing chairs, though. The thick seating provides great lumbar support, which combines well with the waterfall support to keep your back and legs rested. The back depth and seat height are adjustable from the base, which can allow you to set your options and relax. The nylon base allows for a fair bit of mobility, as well.

If there is an issue with this chair, it’s simply the durability. the casters aren’t top notch but they aren’t shabby either. And the material is the same. However, over time both are torn to breaking and tearing. It does take some time before the chair is rendered difficult to use, though. If you’re willing to return to the same purchase in 2 or 3 years, this chair is great for you.

What I liked

  • Many color options, armrest options.
  • Waterfall back support to rest your legs.
  • Thick seating for lumbar support.

What I didn't like

  • Durability is lacking.
  • Material is a bit cheap.
  • Casters are a bit cheap.

Flash Furniture Mid-Back Pink Quilted Vinyl Swivel Task Chair

6. Flash Furniture Mid-Back Pink Quilted Vinyl Swivel Task Chair

Best chair for style
Our Rating: 4 / 5
Weight: 22 Pounds
Size: 24 x 23 x 38.8 inches

Bright and vibrant, the Flash Furniture Vinyl sewing chair is offered with or without arms in 6 colors. Whether you like the loud pink or deep black, you can’t deny this chair’s style. A truly contemporary task chair, you can see that Flash Furniture wants to add a bit of flair to everything that they do. If you like that, too, you might consider this chair.

Much like the Boss B315-BE, this task chair doesn’t go too crazy with features. There’s enough to love, though. The seat is comfortable and allows you to sit back and relax your back muscles a bit. It’s convex design also leaves room for you to rest your thighs while sitting. The height is adjustable, and the nylon base is easily maneuverable.

Flash Furniture is very much a form over function brand, though, and it shows in this task chair. For a short period, the backrest here is very comfortable. As time goes on, though, you might find that your body is a little bit too relaxed. During a long job, you might experience back or neck soreness. The chair is also just a bit too small – especially with arms – for most people, which may have been done intentionally to better fit younger sewers.

What I liked

  • Great, flashy colors.
  • Decent design for comfort.
  • Good movement.

What I didn't like

  • Small seat.
  • Form over function design philosophy.

Boss Office Products B245-BK

7. Boss Office Products B245-BK

Best chair for pains
Our Rating: 5 / 5
Weight: 20.8 Pounds
Size: 24 x 24 x 39.5 inches

Designed as a medical stool, the Boss B245-BK has become one of the best sewing chairs for sale without even meaning to be. To be the best sewing chair requires thought and effort put into both the look and comfort of the chair, and it’s clear that the Boss B245-BK has had both. As a sewing chair, it’s a design that you could improve, but only by adding personal touch. The classic black matte upholstery does more than enough for most people, while the chrome base adds a shiny touch.

The stool design might not seem the most comfortable at face value, but you might be surprised. By emulating the natural curve of your spine in it’s design, and bending to meet your specific needs, the Boss B245-BK provides natural spinal support without relying too much on your body. This makes it an excellent backrest, especially if you’ve adjusted your height correctly. You can also purchase the Boss B245-BK with no backrest, although this might be more difficult for sewing. With a lack of armrests notwithstanding, there is a balance to be found between natural and chair support.

As a sewing chair, mobility is also very important. The Boss B245-BK is equipped with a dual caster movement system that makes movement smooth and easy to navigate. While another sewing chair might function well with a one caster movement system, the Boss B245-BK makes sewing twice as easy.

There is very little to not like about the Boss B245-BK. If you’re hunting something down, you might find that the lack of lumbar support doesn’t work comfortably for you. The Boss B245-BK relies on your body for that, which can cause strain. For sewing, the lack of armrests is a blessing and a curse, as you have to balance yourself carefully. The lack of restriction in any sort of movement with the stool design allows for freedom other sewing chairs don’t, though

What I liked

  • Medically designed to provide support for your body.
  • Simple but nice look.
  • Easy, reinforced movement.

What I didn't like

  • Freeform design can be awkward.
  • Lack of lumbar support with light backrest.

HON ValuTask Low Back Task Chair

8. HON ValuTask Low Back Task Chair

Best chair for lumbar support
Our Rating: 3 / 5
Weight: 36 Pounds
Size: 33.5 x 24.5 x 38.2 inches

Another basic black and silver design, the HON ValuTask sewing chair is also meant for the office. However, it functions well as a sewing chair as it employ a material that we have yet to discuss. The HON ValuTask seat and backrest use a mesh pattern that makes the chair more breathable than other options. If you live in a warm climate, this might be the best sewing chair for you. The material keeps you cool and comfortable.

The HON ValuTask also offers the basic ergonomic functions that you might need out of a chair. The seat height is adjustable, as is the recline of the chair. This is helpful if you find yourself needing to change positions during a long sew job. Strong, durable casters allow for easy swivel movement, as well.

Assembly of this chair requires a little more thought than we’d like it to, but isn’t overly difficult. The material underneath the chest is not the best, either. This is another issue that we could deal with, though, as the material doesn’t affect the experience in any way. The only issue that is entirely hard to deal with is the thin cushioning, which starts to wear down after a lot of mileage.

What I liked

  • Mesh material is very breathable.
  • Recline adjustment is great for your back.
  • Meets all basic ergonomic needs.

What I didn't like

  • Cheap material underneath mesh.
  • Difficult assembly.
  • Thin cushioning can wear down over time.

OFM Posture Series Armless Mid Back Task Chair

9. OFM Posture Series Armless Mid Back Task Chair

BBest chair for relaxing
Our Rating: 4 / 5
Weight: 16.8 Pounds
Size: 28.2 x 26.2 x 36 inches

Available in 6 dull tones, the relaxing nature of this sewing chair seeps through from the very beginning. The design is nice and calm, as you will be in the chair. The smooth, soft upholstering is also quite nice, and easy to unwind in. OFM also uses fabric which is difficult to stain, so there’s no need to worry about messes. Pushing back into this chair provides plenty of support, allowing you to fall into it.

The lumbar support this chair provides is very good, pressing your mid to lower back to prop you up. Like most chairs on this list, the OFM Posture Series offers high adjustments and a nylon movement base. The base here is sturdier than most others, which helps stabilize movement. You can also adjust the recline of the chair for better support.

There are two major drawbacks with this chair. The first is that OFM still has much to improve on the backrest, which can be very stiff. The second is with durability, as the reinforced base can sometimes cause issues with other pieces. Casters and pieces of the main support have been known to break, but only with some force.

What I liked

  • Dull, relaxing design.
  • Good lumbar support.
  • Stable movement.

What I didn't like

  • Pieces sometimes break with force.
  • Stiff backrest.

Sewing Chair Buyer's Guide

When you’re sewing, you need your chair to be three things: comfortable, mobile, and pretty. You might want a storage compartment and other little things, as well. When you’re looking for a sewing chair, don’t discredit how important the look of it is. While you can certainly make trade offs here, it’s nice to have furniture that you enjoy looking at.

You want to enjoy sitting in it, as well. A good chair should support your back and legs, and your neck when you recline. Look for chairs that have adjustable heights and reclines, and good lower and middle back support. These chairs are better for your body than something more stiff. If you happen to find a chair that works for you, though, don’t be afraid.

Finally, your chair should make your work easier. Look for something with smooth movement, and any little thing like a storage compartment that can help.

The verdict

In many ways, the Bose B245-BK stands out from the competition. Others may have a leg up in design, but only because the Bose B245-BK isn’t overly concerned with how it looks. Beyond that, it’s design is much better for most bodies than other chairs provide. Combine that with the good mobility that the Bose B245-BK, and it’s easy to see why it’s the best sewing chair.
